But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” ( Acts 1:8 ) Jesus said we are to make Him known in our immediate community.

Locally we look to be the hands and feet of Christ, meeting practical needs for those that need a hand up.

Every follower of Jesus has a role in God’s life changing work all around us, right where we live and work. Missions is more than simply writing a check or signing up for another church activity; it is about becoming a person who is meaningfully engaged in the community as a follower of Jesus.

Myrtle Beach Primary School

Myrtle Beach Primary School

The life challenges of hunger, homelessness, and transportation are prevalent in our community. By working with the staff and faculty of Myrtle Beach Primary, we are addressing these challenges for a number of students and families.  OVBC members pack weekend lunches for hungry children, provide transportation services for families, and work for other agencies to make sure children have shelter.

Now, we have an opportunity to expand our ministry and influence at MBPS through “Reading Buddies” and Mentors. Did you know…

The #1 indicator of success in a child’s life is the ability to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade?

3rd graders who cannot read at grade level are 4 times more likely to drop out of high school, experience significant higher rates of delinquency, poverty and incarceration?

Students with mentor support are 87% more likely to graduate from high school?

One hour a week with a mentor for 6 months can help them experience academic and lifelong success?

It takes 3 hrs., 9:00-12:00 PM, to make deliveries.  Transportation and drivers are provided. If you would like to volunteer to help in this much needed ministry, please contact Darrine Brown, Discipleship Minister Assistant, 843.449.3384 in the Church Office.
