Steve became pastor of OVBC in January of 1999. Beginning in ministry as a Young Life volunteer in college, Steve has been involved in both para-church and church ministry since 1975. A native of South Carolina, he has also served churches in Virginia and North Carolina. The greatest blessing he enjoys is a loving, supportive wife, and four wonderful boys.
Says Steve: “My heart has resonated with Colossians 1:28-29 throughout my adult life. Through Jesus Christ, God shares His life with us. My passions are to make Jesus known—assist people in having those ‘Ah ha!’ moments—for He shows us the intimate love of God; and to encourage people to break down the barriers which prevent us from expressing the love of Jesus to one another in ways consistent with how He loved.
“Building community is a challenge in any location, but at OVBC it is also a joy. The Lord is assembling here a variety of people from different regions of the country—people open to trying fresh approaches to ministry. There’s room for more! I am constantly blessed and invigorated by the number of people who, overwhelmed by the love they discover in Jesus, reach out to one another and to others in the community with the same love, no matter how different they may be. Guests tell me they can sense it when they come to worship. Intimacy is the longing of our hearts. We find that with God and with others when Jesus is our focus. We keep His words and His ways before us at OVBC.”
